| Event Information
One of the more recent theatre productions that has become an instant success is the musical “Wicked” which chronicles a portion of the popular story “The Wizard of Oz.” This story chooses to focus on what happens before Dorothy drops into the Land of Oz and instead discusses the story of Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West. The cast of “Wicked” is one of the biggest and best known of any musical production including the well known actor Ben Vereen (Star Trek, Roots, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air) as the Wizard and actress Rue McClanahan (Mama’s Family, The Golden Girls) as Madame Morrible. The stars of the show will be played by Shoshana Bean and Megan Hilty. Hilty, who will be playing Glinda in the Broadway show, graduated from the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama and is making her Broadway debut. Bean, who will play Elphaba, is more accomplished on Broadway but is also quite a singer. She sang backup for Michael Jackson’s 30th anniversary show at Madison Square Garden in New York and opened for Kanye West at the Hammerstein Ballroom.
The Chicago cast is led by Ana Gasteyer as Elphaba and Steven Skybell as Doctor Dillamond. Gasteyer spent six years on Saturday Night Live and was best known for her impressions of characters like Celine Dion and Martha Stewart. Skybell has done work on Broadway and has also appeared in shows like “Sex and the City” and“All My Children.” In addition to a show on Broadway and a location in Chicago, there is also a touring show for Wicked. The headliners of the cast are Stephanie J. Block as Elphaba and Kendra Kassebaum as Glinda. The tour will take place from June of 2005 through early September of 2006 and will hit all the major cities along the way. The tour will start in Los Angeles before traveling to cities like San Francisco, Houston, Philadelphia, Boston, Atlanta, Detroit, and Tempe, as well as others.
