| Hairspray Event Information
Hairspray, a musical that has won a number of awards from numerous different associations, is back on Broadway with a new cast of favorites. The performance, which lasts just more than two and a half hours (intermission included), is open to the public with shows everyday of the week except Monday. On Sundays, the cast of Hairspray takes the stage at 3 pm while on Tuesdays, they begin at 7 pm. Wednesday through Saturday, the shows are nightly at 8 pm and on Wednesday and Saturday, there is an additional showing at 2 pm. The stars of the new show are Marissa Jaret Winokur as Tracy Turnblad and Bruce Vilanch as her mother, Edna. Both of these distinguished entertainers have won numerous awards with Vilanch winning the “Quadruple Crown” of awards the Oscars, the Grammys, the Tonys, and the Emmys, and Turnblad winning a number of awards for her previous Broadway work. Turnblad has also appeared in a number of movies including “Fever Pitch” and “American Beauty” as well as notable roles as a guest star on television shows like “Jack and Bobby,” “Dharma and Greg,” “Stacked,” “Boston Public,” and “Just Shoot Me.” Over the years, Hairspray has won many awards like the Tony Awards, the Drama Desk Awards, the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award, the Outer Critics Circle Award, the Drama League Award, the Theatre World Award, and the National Arts Club Gold Medal.
