Making its premiere in 1998, O broke new ground for the Cirque du Soleil franchise as its first aquatic presentation. Its numerous acts are performed in, on and above the water in the theater’s pool, which holds 1.5 million gallons of water. The acts of O pay homage to the theater through trapeze, contortion, and synchronized swimming, as well as a host of other dramatic feats.
Cirque du Soleil’s O was the brainchild of writer and director Franco Dragone, who had a hand in the creation of ten other Cirque du Soleil shows, including 1995’s Cirque du Soleil and 1994’s Alegria. Set designer Michel Crete and costume designer Dominique Lemieux offered their creative talents to make Dragone’s unique vision come to life.
