Event Information
Ready to take their seats in Philips Arena, Atlanta Thrashers tickets are a hot buy for hockey fans this season. Finishing mid-range in Eastern Conference standings last season, a decent tenth place, Head Coach Bob Hartley is making moves to help boost the team's chances for this winter.
Fairly new to the NHL, the Atlanta Thrashers became a league franchise only in 1999. However, the team has seen great tragedy for such a short history. In 2003, the team was sold, along with professional basketball team the Atlanta Hawks, to a group of executives by Time Warner. That same month, fans and teammates were sent into shock when star power forward Dany Heatly wrecked his Ferrari in a one car accident that not only seriously injured him, but also killed Thrashers center Dan Snyder, who was riding in the passenger seat of the car. As a result, the Thrashers dedicated their entire 2003-04 season to Snyder's memory. All players wore black patches with the number 37, Snyder's number, on their jerseys every game for the whole season that year as a memorial to him. Also, the accident resulted in a serious drop in Heatly's popularity through Florida, which was a major factor in his being traded to Ottawa the following off-season. While playing in honor of Snyder's memory, the Thrashers had their best season to date. Then, in the 2005-06 season, the team made it farther than ever, missing the playoffs by a mere two games.
Although in their short history the team has never made the playoffs, they are optimistic that some of the trades during the off-season will give them the extra push they need to make it this year. To date, the Panthers have picked up free agents such as center Steve Rucchin, goaltender Johan Hedberg and forward Jon Sim. In addition comes local goaltender David Caruso, and forwards Jason Krog and Darren Haydar. However, the Panthers are still keeping a hold on some essential players for their lineup. The team has re-signed vital players such as defenseman Mark Popovic, forward Colin Stuart and of course team captain Scott Mellanby.
