Event Information
Charging into the new season hot off a fourth place finish in the Eastern Conference, Buffalo Sabres tickets are going faster than box offices can print them. Headed by coach Lindy Ruff, the Sabres are preparing for a season that will take them deep into the playoffs. With experience and talent, this team is ready for a new season and another shot at a championship.
Over the past few seasons, the Sabres have remained at the top of standings in the NHL. Although in the 2000-01 season, team captain Michael Peca sat out over a contract dispute, the team was still able to take down the Philadelphia Flyers in round one of the playoffs in six games. Sadly though, the Sabres would see an end of their post-season when they lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in a seven game series which ended in an overtime goal by Penguin defenseman Darius Kasparaitis. However, failed contract negotiations saw the loss of captain Peca to the Islanders and star goaltender Hasek to the Devils. Unable to decently replace these two key players, the Sabres missed the playoffs in the 2001-02 season. That summer, the arrest of the team's owner put the Sabres at risk of a move out of Buffalo. However, in 2003 the team was sold to billionaire Tom Golisano. The team's new owner quickly became favored by Sabres' fans when he immediately lowered ticket prices. Their 2003-04 season saw the rise of prominent young players such as Daniel Brière and Derek Roy. Considering the mess the Sabres were just getting out of, it was impressive when they narrowly missed the playoffs. But the team came back strong after the 2004-05 lockout, defeating the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round of the 2006 playoffs. In the second round the team again came out victorious, taking down the Ottawa Senators in only five games. However, it ended for the Sabres in the Eastern Conference Finals where they were taken down by the Carolina Hurricanes. However, that year Sabres' head coach Lindy Ruff edged out Hurricanes' head coach Peter Laviolette by one point to take home the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year.
