Event Information
Refocused and ready for another playoff run, New York Rangers tickets are without a doubt going to be in short supply this winter. Making the playoffs for the first time since the 1996-97 season last year, fans are reenergized and dedicated to the team than has been seen in a long time. Under the leadership of head coach Tom Renney, the front office of the Rangers has been working hard in the off-season to make sure the team makes an even deeper run this winter.
The Rangers’ more recent past has seen some serious changes, not only in players, but in staff as well. In 2000, general manager Neil Smith and head coach John Muckler were both fired from the team, replaced by Glen Sather and Tom Renney. By the 2001 season, the team had added on many star-studded names to their rosters, including Theoren Fluery, who came from the Calgary Flames and Eric Lindros, who hailed from Philadelphia. Despite these big names, the Rangers still failed to make the playoffs. Even as later years saw superstars such as Jaromir Jagr, Alexei Kovalev, Anson Carter and Bobby Holik, the teams still couldn’t seem to make it past the regular season, to the frustration of fans across the city. By the end of the 2003-04 season, Slather finally decided that some big changes needed to be made, even if it meant losing some star players in the process. It was then that he traded Leetch, Kovalev, and eight others in exchange for numerous prospects and draft picks. In a new strategy, the team has moved away from big money veterans in change for younger, talented players such as Petr Prucha, Dominic Moore and Blaire Betts. However, its main limelight still shines on stay Jaromir Jagr. Although they were predicted to struggle in the 2005-06 season, the team made leaps and bounds with the aid of Swedish rookie goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, along with some impressive playing by Martin Straka, Petr Prucha and of course Jaromir Jagr. And while Jagr did severely injure his shoulder in last year’s games, the team has faith he will be back on the line and in top condition this season.
