Event Information
Coming back off of a strong previous season, Toronto Maple Leafs tickets are a prime choice for hockey fans this winter. While the team didn’t make the playoffs last season, the loss was extremely narrow as they took ninth in the standings for the Eastern Conference. Gunning up for this season, Head Coach Paul Maurice has made moves during the off-season to take the team from almost to victory.
In the more recent past, Toronto has done fairly well, consistently making the playoffs up until last season. Both 2000 and 2001 saw the team advancing to the second round where both years they were taken out by the New Jersey Devils. In 2002, the Maple Leafs continued to climb in the standings, beating the New York Islanders and the Ottawa Senators to advance to the third round of the playoffs. However, there they were defeated by the Carolina Hurricanes, who were a cinderella story that season. 2002 was still an impressive year for the team even though they didn’t make the finals. During their series against both the Islanders and the Senators, many of the Maple Leafs’ players were benched by injuries, but they were still able to make it to the Conference Finals with the help of their lesser known players. In the 2002 off-season, Toronto lost Curtis Joseph to the Red Wings. Luckily though, the team found a replacement in a short amount of time, picking up veteran Ed Belfour. Even with Belfour, Toronto yet again couldn’t seem to make it to the championship, losing to the Philadelphia Flyers in a seven game series in the first round. Then, the Maple Leafs gave their 2003-04 season a different beginning when they held their training camp in Sweden and playing in the NHL Challenge against teams from Sweden and Finland. That season, the team finished fourth in the Eastern Conference, scoring a franchise record number of points. However, they did not go too deep into the playoffs, losing to Flyers in the second round. 2006 marked the first year this millennium that the Maple Leafs didn’t make the playoffs.
