Event Information
La Kings hockey may have a little more to offer in 2006-07 than they have over the past few years. Let’s face it; the Staple Center hasn’t exactly been a hotbed of NHL Playoff action. In fact, the Kings haven’t made the NHL Playoffs in three seasons. But new GM Dean Lombardi, who spent the last eight years molding the San Jose Sharks into a playoff team, is now firmly at the helm of the franchise and intent on making Kings tickets more than second class sports tickets in the City of Angels.
While many Kings Ticket holders would expect Lombardi to just clean house, and he has gotten rid of major portions of the front office and support staff, he hasn’t taken the axe to the roster in a wholesale manner. Lombardi is picking and choosing. The Kings re-signed several players, including forward Michael Cammalleri, who led the Kings with 26 goals last season, and Sean Avery. Avery is another forward who contributed 15 goals in limited action. More importantly Avery brings aggression to a Kings roster that seemed timid at times over the last season. Avery led the NHL in penalty minutes in 2005-06 with 257 spent in the box. Along with Cammalleri and Avery, the Kings also re-signed Eric Belanger, choosing to avoid arbitration for another year and keep the fan favorite around for his 11th season.
