On of the most widely known and feared teams in the NHL, New Jersey Devils tickets are already selling out of box offices. With a third place finish in the Eastern Conference standings last season, the Devils are preparing for a deep run into the playoffs this winter. Led by brand new head coach Claude Julien, who will be starting his first season with the Devils this year, the team is excited that a new perspective will give them the edge the need to get to the top.
In 2001, the Devils could almost taste their third Stanley Cup. However, after seven grueling games against the Colorado Avalanche, the team saw defeat in the finals. Their next season turned out to be somewhat disappointing when they were knocked out of the playoffs in only the first round by the Carolina Hurricanes. But then, in 2003, the glory came back to New Jersey. After a seven game series against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, the Devils came out on top and took home their third Stanley Cup. The 2005-06 season started out somewhat shaky for New Jersey. After being diagnosed with cancer for the second time in a little over a year, head coach Pat Burns resigned in July of 2005. Coming in to take his place was Devils’ previous coach Larry Robinson. However, after only half a season, Robinson resigned from the job due to high stress. This move forced general manager Lou Lamoriello to move down to the bench as the interim coach, where he would remain for the rest of the season. In addition to coaching confusion, the Devils also started without two key defensemen, Scott Niedermayer who signed with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and longtime captain Scott Stevens who announced his retirement. Even with all of these factors, the Devils still ended the season with an eleven game winning streak, winning them the Atlantic Division for the sixth time in franchise history.
