Event Information
Falling short of what most would consider a successful season, the Chicago Blackhawks are reworking their roster this off-season. However, don’t be too quick to count Chicago Blackhawks tickets out of box offices. Led this year by Coach Trent Yawney, who just recently joined the Hawks in July of 2005, the team is working to build themselves into a force to be reckoned with. Although the 2005-06 season didn’t see them through a postseason run, the Hawks are still showing some major potential.
One of the NHL’s “Original Six” franchises, the Hawks joined the league back in 1926 along with the Boston Bruins, the Detroit Red Wings, the Montreal Canadiens, the New York Rangers and the Toronto Maple Leafs. With a disappointing start, the Hawks finished the 1927-28 season with the worst record in the league. However, as bad as they were, the team was just as quick to turn around. By 1931 they had a shot at winning the Stanley Cup. While they would reach the finals, the team did not see championship success, losing to the Montreal Canadiens. Then, in 1934 the Hawks struck lightning, taking down the feared Detroit Red Wings in the finals to win their first Stanley Cup.
In their more recent history, the new millennium has seen a less than promising team in Chicago. For four straight years, the team failed to make the playoffs. Finally, in 2002 the team broke the barrier and made an appearance. However, their time spent in the post-season was short lived as the Hawks were beat out in the first round series. After once again missing the playoffs in 2003, and the NHL lockout of 2004-05, the team’s general manager Dale Tallon set out to make the team a competitive one in the league. In the summer of 2005, he signed Stanley Cup-winning goalie Nikolai Khabibulin and All-Star defenseman Adrian Aucoin. But, even after Tallon’s work, the Hawks still finished with one of the worst records in the league (26-43-13).
