Both in 1995-96 and 2000-01 Colorado hoisted the greatest trophy in professional sports for the great fans of Denver, CO. The team’s inaugural year in their new home saw forward Joe Sakic break out from the rest of the league with a 51 goal campaign and an MVP caliber playoff performance to lead the Aves to a 4-0 sweep over the Florida Panthers. The playoffs were dominated by the brick wall play of goalie Patrick Roy. Sakic and Roy were complimented by the coming out party of one Peter Forsberg. The gritty forward manhandled defensemen and used puck placement precision to tally an unbelievable 86 assists in the 95-96 season. The tandem of Sakic and Forsberg continued to flourish in the following seasons and finally came together with the right tools again in 2000-01. Once again Sakic and Forsberg led Colorado offensively under coach Bob Hartley combining for 207 points culminating in one the greatest seven game Staley Cup Finals series in NHL history.
