San Jose Sharks Team Info

Sharks fans had to be happy in 2005-06 as the Sharks finished 3rd in the Pacific Division with 44 wins and advanced to the Conference Quarterfinals where they prevailed in a 4-1 series win. After dropping the first game, they rebounded with a shutout in Game 2. Game 3 was a solid 4-1 win and the Sharks survived a close 5-4 shootout in Game 4 before finally closing it out to move on to the Conference Semi-Finals. After capturing the first pair of games in that series, the Sharks fell apart, dropping four straight to end their season on a sour note.

Looking to improve on the performance of a defense that looked sluggish in the last games of the season the Sharks reached out and tapped Mathiu Biron in the free agent market. Biron, who comes to the team after seven years in hockey, played 52 games with him in the previous season where he scored four goals and notched nine assists. The Sharks also ensured themselves of some roster stability by re-signing center Patrick Rissmiller to a new contract. Not content with their finish, they also added some firepower in the off-season by signing Mark Bell. Bell had his best season as a pro last year, notching 25 goals and 48 points. San Jose also added defenseman Christian Ehrhoff, who’s in his second year in the league and shows signs of coming into his own after a settling in period.
