Team Information
So what did all you Houston Texans ticket holders think when the news broke that your team would be passing on USC dynamo and Heisman trophy winner Reggie Bush and, instead, be taking North Carolina State defensive end Mario Williams? Be honest, your jaw dropped and your eyes rolled back in your head, didn’t they? Surely, there had to be some sort of conspiracy going on behind the scenes at Reliant Stadium. Bush was a sure thing, guaranteed to turn the Texans’ stagnant offense into a juggernaut, right? Well, maybe, but the truth is taking Williams made a lot more sense.
The Texans’ defense ranked dead last in sacks last season, and in a division dominated by Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts, creating some kind of pass rush and solidifying Houston’s porous defense is the Texans’ ticket to the first playoff appearance in the franchise’s short history. Williams, an incredible athlete, can go a long way in beginning to fortify the Houston defense.
At North Carolina State, he was a dominant force in one of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s top defenses. His speed and size reminds NFL pundits of current Philadelphia Eagles’ pass rushing specialist Jevon Kearse. That’s pretty high praise for a rookie. But that’s the kind of ability Williams has. Now, he’ll just need to adjust to the pro game, where he’ll likely face constant double and triple teams from offensive linemen bigger and stronger than he is.
While Williams transcends to the NFL game, the Texans’ offense will need to take some strides under new head coach Gary Kubiak. A longtime Denver Bronco offensive coordinator and former Bronco quarterback, Kubiak brings a lengthy track record of producing powerful offenses. He’ll have plenty of firepower to work his magic on.
It starts with quarterback David Carr, who, despite being under constant pressure, has developed nicely over his brief NFL career. Kubiak sees unlimited potential in Carr and will look to mold the former Fresno State Bulldog and No. 1 overall pick into a Pro Bowl quarterback.
The new head coach knows that Carr can’t punch the Texans’ ticket to the NFL Playoffs on his own, though. Houston will need a banner season from running back Domanick Davis and wide receiver Andre Johnson. Both players suffered through disappointing campaigns last season and will looking to bring smiles back to the faces of Houston Texans ticket holders immediately this year.
An offseason filled with controversy has left Houston Texans ticket holders anxious to see if their team can make some progress after last year’s nightmare. The Texan faithful won’t stand for another lackluster campaign in the 2006 NFL season, especially if they see Reggie Bush running over defenses in a New Orleans Saints uniform. There are plenty of questions surrounding the Texans. The answers will be provided by Houston Texans tickets. So reserve your Houston Texans tickets today and make plans to be at glorious Reliant Stadium to see the new-look Texans turn things around in 2006.
