Team Information
After another disappointing season at McAfee Coliseum, Oakland Raiders tickets are on the rebound. The offseason additions of quarterback Aaron Brooks and the return of head coach Art Shell have NFL football fans expecting big things out of the Black and Silver in 2006. But it’s going to take a lot of work to rekindle the “Just Win, Baby” attitude in Oakland. Since getting drilled by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl XXXVIII, the Raiders have struggled, missing the playoffs the last three seasons. During that stretch, eccentric owner Al Davis has seen coaches come and go. Bill Callahan, now leading the Nebraska Cornhuskers, was dismissed one year after taking the Raiders to the Super Bowl. Former Washington Redskins head coach Norv Turner was brought in to replace Callahan. Turner never seemed to get on the same page as the rest of the Raiders and was given his walking papers after last season’s putrid 4-12 mark that included a six-game losing steak to end the season.
Enter Shell. The Hall of Fame offensive lineman led the Raiders to a 59-38 record from 1989 to 1994. He took the Raiders to the playoffs three times during that stretch. Most NFL pundits credit Shell with building the roster that helped Callahan take the Raiders to the Super Bowl in 2003. Now Shell will be looking to punch the Raiders’ ticket back to the NFL Playoffs and maybe even a trip to Miami’s Dolphins Stadium, site of Super Bowl XLI.
Shell inherits a roster bursting with offensive firepower. Running back LaMont Jordan is a versatile threat, equally dangerous running between tackles or catching passes out of the backfield. The sixth-year man out of Maryland, who joined the Raiders before the 2005 NFL season, went over the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career, despite missing two games due to injury. Jordan also hauled in a whopping 70 passes for 563 yards. But Jordan wasn’t the biggest offseason acquisition of the 2005 season.
The dynamic Randy Moss was acquired in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings. He paid immediate dividend at the McAfee Coliseum, pulling in 60 balls and eight touchdowns. His 16.8 yard per catch average was one the highest in the last five years of his career, and with Brooks, who is known for his strong arm, Moss’ highlight reel performances should become more and more frequent. He’ll also benefit from the return of a healthy Jerry Porter.
The pieces are in place for an explosive season for those lucky NFL football fans, who manage to snag some Oakland Raiders tickets. They’ll get more than their money’s worth, when the Raiders take to the field at historic McAfee Coliseum, armed with a new, strong-armed quarterback and a proven winner at head coach. Can Shell do a repeat performance and take the Raiders to new heights in the tough AFC West Division? You bet. But don’t gamble with your seats to McAfee Coliseum. Reserve your Oakland Raiders tickets today.
