Team Information
New York Giants tickets delivered plenty of good football last season. The Giants, behind Eli Manning, finished the regular season at 11-5 in the tough NFC East. So it was pretty surprising when the Carolina Panthers waltzed into Giants Stadium and spanked the boys from the Big Apple 23-0. The loss, while heartbreaking for Giants ticket holders, shouldn’t scare anyone off of Giants tickets. Sometimes a good loss is all a team needs to get their heads in the right place for the next season. It looks like that’s what happening in New York right now as the Giants begin their journey to the top of the NFC East in 2006.
To begin with, Eli Manning, despite his pedigree, is still a young quarterback playing in what may be the toughest position in the NFL: Quarterback in New York. Consistency will be the key for Manning to fulfill his potential. The New York Giants need the quarterback who led his team to six wins in the first eight games of 2005, putting two fourth quarter rallies on his resume along the way. Late in the season though, Manning hit a rough spot, throwing more than twice as many interceptions as touchdowns over the last six games. It was a tough experience for the young QB, but one that should make him a better field general in the long run.
The Giants are certainly giving Eli Manning everything they can. The 2006 NFL Draft yielded Sinorice Moss, a product of Miami of Florida and a top ranked draft prospect. Moss joins a receiver group that includes Plaxico Burress, Amani Toomer, the speedy Tim Carter, and of course tight end Jeremy Shockey. Added together, Manning has one of the best collections of receivers in the NFL. Defending the pass against the Giants is going to give defensive coordinators around the league nightmares.
Amazingly, the Giants can still depend on running back Tiki Barber to carry his weight in 2006. Barber had an amazing year in 2005 for a running back over the 30 year mark, running for 1,860 yards on the ground and adding another 530 yards in receptions. The question is how much more can the Giants get from Barber? Look for Brandon Jacobs to take some of the load off the aging running back. Barber, at 6’ 4” and 26 pounds, will be used in short yardage and goal line situations to save the wear and tear on Barber.
After getting whipped in the first round of the playoffs, the Giants are coming back stronger than ever. LaVar Arrington comes over from the Redskins to beef up the defense, Sinorice Moss completes an already strong group of wideouts, and 1st round draft choice Kiwanaku Mathias provides great depth behind Michael Strahan and Justin Tuck. The Giants will need it all as the NFC East keeps getting tougher every year. The Cowboys didn’t sit on their hands and the Eagles are banking that life without T.O. will be brighter. Meanwhile, the Redskins keep buying more talent with the deep pockets of their owner Dan Snyder. The best NFL football in 2006 is coming from the NFC East and the best way to see the NFC East war is with New York Giants tickets.
