Team Information
Peyton Manning is undoubtedly among the best quarterbacks in the NFL and worth the price of Indianapolis Colts tickets all by himself. Luckily for the Indianapolis faithful, Manning is not the only reason to load up on Colts tickets for the 2006 NFL season. Last year’s disappointing loss to Pittsburgh in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs left a bad taste in the mouths of the Colts, one that would disappear with a Super Bowl championship. And with Manning at the controls of Indy’s high-octane attack, the Colts have the looks of big-time Super Bowl contenders once again. But, actually, it may be a maturing Indy defense that may be the Colts’ ticket to Miami’s Dolphins Stadium, site of Super Bowl XLI.
In 2005, Indianapolis burst out the gates, winning their first 13 games in convincing fashion. The hot start had NFL football fans across the world whispering about a possible undefeated season. That ended in resounding fashion with a 26-17 loss to San Diego in Week 14. Tragedy struck the team around the same time. Head coach Tony Dungy’s son committed suicide, stunning the club as they prepared for the playoffs. It’s hard to believe the Colts ever fully recovered from tragedy in time for their second-round playoff game with Pittsburgh. It certainly appeared to have an impact on the Colts during the game.
With the RCA Dome packed to the rim with Colts ticket holders, the Steelers roared out to a quick start, surprising Indy’s aggressive defense by coming out throwing the football. Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger quickly helped the Steelers out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead. They extended the lead to 21-3 early the third quarter and looked to be in charge leading 21-18, with the ball inside the Colts’ 10-yard line and less than a minute to play. But the game was far from over.
In one of the most bizarre endings in NFL football history, Nick Harper scooped up a fumble from sure-handed veteran Jerome Bettis, who was simply trying to run out the clock, as well as score the clinching touchdown. Harper appeared headed for the end zone, before a twisting and falling-down Roethlisberger was able to trip him up. The Colts managed to move into field-goal position on the ensuing drive, but kicker Mike Vanderjagt’s potential game-tying kick sailed wide right, ending Indianapolis’ improbable comeback.
That won’t happen this year. Vanderjagt will be wearing a Dallas Cowboys uniform in the 2006 NFL season. Longtime New England Patriots kicker Adam Vinatieri was brought in. Twice a Super Bowl hero, Vinatieri has proven he can handle the pressure.
Manning and company are back again, this time armed with a clutch kicker. They’ll be looking to erase the memories of last year’s crushing end to the season. They’ll have to do it without the services of running back Edgerrin James, who was signed away by the Arizona Cardinals. Don’t feel too sorry for Manning, though. He’s got plenty of weapons to work with, including future Hall of Fame receiver Marvin Harrison. The pieces are in place for another Super Bowl run. So join in all the action by reserving your Indianapolis Colts tickets today.
