New England Patriots Team Info

Last season, the Patriots went 10-6 and won their third consecutive AFC East title. The reached the second round of the NFL Playoffs and were a controversial call away from reaching the AFC Championship Game. In the process, golden boy Tom Brady threw for more than 4,100 yards and 14 touchdowns, and linebacker Teddy Bruschi made a heroic return to the field after suffering a stroke in the offseason. Despite all the heroics, those not playing close attention would have thought the Patriots had had done nothing With all New England's recent success, which includes three Super Bowl titles in the last six seasons, Patriot ticket holders have become spoiled. So when Brady wasn't exactly perfect or head coach Bill Belichick was caught off guard, there was a sense of 'what's wrong with the Patriots?' echoing throughout the league. The answer to that question is a resounding NOTHING.

With Brady under center and Belichick on the sidelines, New England is a threat to win it all again. Hampered by a seemingly endless string of injuries, the Patriots got younger and deeper in the offseason. With Corey Dillon starting to wear down and an aging receiving corps, Belichick went after playmakers in the draft. Running back Laurence Maroney, who the Patriots stole in the first round, has a chance to be a superstar. He is a perfect combination of speed and power and will be an ideal compliment to Dillon. Chad Jackson, the speedy wideout who the Patriots took in the second round, also will play immediate dividends for New England.

But the news was not all good for Patriot fans. With additions must come subtractions, and the Patriots' losses were big names. Gone is kicker Adam Vinatieri, linebacker Willie McGinest and wide receiver David Givens. To make things worse, Vinatieri will be kicking field goals for one of the Patriots' biggest rivals. It will be interesting to see what scheme Belichick devises to make up for those departures. The veteran sideline general has proven he can deal with any obstacles that are put in front of him. So don’t be surprised to see the Patriots contending for a trip to the Super Bowl.

Remember, the Patriots don't rebuild; they reload. And Brady's bunch is completely loaded. Come playoff time, the Patriots will once again be the team no one wants to face. Belichick has become the master at infusing young talent around his veteran leaders. And, make no mistake about it, some of the Patriots' rookies, specifically Maroney and Jackson, will be looked upon to contribute immediately. What brilliant strategy will Belichick cook-up this season? What does Brady have in store? All the questions make for some exciting action, so stay on top of your game by reserving your Patriots seats early.
