After earning a No. 1 seed in last year’s NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, the Washington Huskies are looking for more. They’ll have to make up for the point guard Nate Robinson’s departure to the NBA, but the Huskies think they’ve found the man to make-up for the loss of Robinson, who is suiting up for Larry Brown’s New York Knicks.

Because Roy doesn't just fill it up at nearly 20 points per game: He is an extremely well-rounded player who shoots the 3-pointer well, sets up teammates, blocks shots, rebounds and makes steals. But the high-flying Huskies are much more than a one-man show. Jamaal Williams, Bobby Jones and Jon Brockman are potent weapons who command attention and respect. With so much talent at his disposal, Head Coach Lorenzo Romar is the envy of coaches around the nation. Players like Roy follow behind Washington greats such as Nate Robinson, Chris Welp, Detlef Schrempf, Todd MacCulloch, Doug Smart and Eldridge Recasner. Romar has been in charge for just three years, but already he has elevated the program to the college basketball elite, making Washington Huskies basketball tickets a precious commodity.
Washington made its second straight NCAA appearance in 2005, only the fourth time that has happened for the Huskies Romar guided the Huskies to a 29-6 record last season. That tied the 1938 squad for the highest win total in school history. After receiving their first ever No. 1 seed, the Huskies posted two NCAA Tournament victories to reach the Sweet 16. Romar, who led Washington to its first Pac-10 Tournament championship, was named the conference Coach of the Year and the Black Coaches Association National Coach of the Year. Romar's second season, 2003-04, marked a remarkable turnaround for the Huskies. Washington went 19-12 and made the Big Dance for the first time since 1999. It's no surprise Romar, who earlier was head coach at Pepperdine and St. Louis, recently got an eight-year contract extension. Entering the 2005-06 season, Washington was 58-35 under Romar. And breaking the 100-point mark is not unheard of for the Huskies. They are an offensive juggernaut that can run with anybody. Pac-10 foes like Washington State, UCLA, Arizona and Stanford are finding out the hard way how tough it is to win in Bank of America Arena. Roy is crafting a special senior season before he moves on to NBA fame.
