In only five seasons at Wake Forest, Coach Skip Prosser has spurred on his team to win 106 games, meaning his Demon Deacons have averaged 21.3 wins per season during his reign. Prosser’s record at Wake Forest stands at 106-41, in each of Prosser’s four pervious seasons with Wake Forest, they have won at least 20 games, produced a winning record in the ACC and earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Fans expect no less from the Demon Deacons this 2005-06 season. Over the past four seasons, Wake Forest has won 36 ACC games, only Duke has won more league games during that time, becoming one of Wake Forest’s biggest rivals and fans can’t wait to grab up Demon Deacons basketball tickets.
Rebounding is always an important part of the Demon Deacon’s game, causing them to rank first in the ACC and fifth nationally in the rebound margin. Three of the top five rebounding teams in Wake Forest history have come under the coaching of Skip Prosser. Rebounding is a vital part of every single team he has coached over the years and continues to be key in his games and teams today.
This season’s statistics show that the Demon Deacons have a much better defensive team this season as they are holding their opponents to a 39.5 percent shooting, setting them in a solid third place slot in the ACC and 22nd nationally for field goal percentage defense. Demon Deacon senior, Eric Williams has always produced a high field goal percentage, but this season he has surpassed even his own record. He currently leads the ACC and ranks eighth in the nation in his percentage and is one of only two players in the ACC shooting better than 60 percent.
Senior Trent Stickland is also determined to make his mark as he is tied for sixth in the ACC with four double-doubles. He began his senior year with a career high of eight rebounds and this 2005-06 season he has give games on record with at least 10 rebounds, including an awe-inspiring 16 rebound effort against rival, Texas Tech. Justin Gray should also be noticed as he ranks in the top 10 of the ACC in six different statistical categories. He is second in the ACC in scoring and in three-point field goals per game, holds the third place slot for his three-point percentage, comes in fifth for his free throw percentage and is shooting 90.6 percent form the free throw line in all ACC games. Not to mention he is also leading the team in assists per game.
Wake Forest seniors Justin Gray ND Eric Williams were named two of the 50 preseason candidates for the Wooden Award, joining eight other ACC players on the list, including Nik Caner-Medley of Maryland, Guillermo Diaz of Miami, Jared Dudley and Craig Smith of Boston, as well as J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams of Duke.
