Team Information
Louisville Cardinals head coach Rick Pitino is no stranger to success when it comes to coaching successful college basketball programs. His star studded reputation precedes him, whether coaching teams from Providence, Louisville or Kentucky, Pitino is known throughout the United States as a winner and future hall of famer. He has spent 19 seasons coaching college basketball and the 2004-05 season is touted as his best. Still, Pitino stands to outdo even himself this year as he leads the Cardinals onto victory in Louisville. The Cardinal’s Final Four run last year was the stuff of legends and fans are just as eager to buy Louisville basketball tickets this season and cheer the team on at the Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. As the Cardinals make the transition into the Big East, they are being put into a position not only to compete with the best in the country, but to possibly win a coveted spot in the finals.
David Padget is the most talked about Cardinal in the frontcourt, a former McDonald’s All-American athlete; he adds an incomparable amount of weight and skill as a solid starter for Louisville. To back up Padget on the court, sophomore Juan Palacios returns, giving the Cardinals one of the best frontcourt combinations in the Big East. In addition to this dynamic duo, Brian Johnson has recovered from his knee surgery that forced him to red shirt last season and is ready to add even more power to Louisville’s already strong frontcourt.
As for the backcourt, Taquan Dean is extremely adept at handling Louisville’s opponents, taking on an even more authoritative role this season after the loss of Francisco Garcia to the NBA. Dean boasts an impressive history, even going so far as to beat out a severe case of mononucleosis last season on the way to helping the Cardinals win. Brandon Jenkins is ready to add his powerful playing ability to Dean, stepping into a much more integral role on the court this season. In addition to Jenkins and Dean, freshmen players Terrence Williams and Bryan Harvey are ready to make their debut, joining speedy Andrew McGee in competing for the coveted point guard position.
Louisville is a team of legends; the Cardinals stand a solid chance to make yet another trip to the Final Four this 2005-06 season; thanks to Pitino’s consistent hard work building his team. No newcomer in the league will make as big of an impact this year as Padgett and could be a legitimate All-American candidate. Critics have had their doubts about the Cardinals, but even with three of their top six scorers gone, Pitino has no intent of letting Louisville accomplish anything less than greatness. Louisville is a team full of prospective stars and their fans are eager to support them once again in this new conference as they rush to pack arenas all across the nation by buying up Louisville Cardinal basketball tickets.
