Team Information
In their sixth season under Coach Hewitt, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are ranking 105-73 overall with constant appearances in the post season. Currently they remain on a quest for their third consecutive NCAA Tournament spot. Fans are eager to support the Yellow Jackets as they just recently earned their 100th win under Hewitt at the beginning of the 2005-06 season. That landmark win only served to turn up the heat under Geargia Tech Yellowjackets tickets.
Anthony Morrow and Jeremis Smith, the ACC’s seventh-leading scorer and their second-leading rebounder, have formed a solid duo for the Yellow Jackets to revolve around this season and are the only constant starters for Georgia Tech. Morrow, a guard who has averaged 17.5 points per game, leads the ACC with an impressive success rate from the three-point range and is third in the entire conference in three-point field goals. Also being one of only three yellow Jackets to average in double figures, Morrow shoots 41.7 percent from three-point range in ACC games. Smith has become an intimidating force in the paint on both ends of the court this season, posting an impressive record of seven double-doubles. Now completely recovered from his dislocated kneecap last year, he averages 13.6 points and 9.0 rebounds a game and hitting 50.7 percent of his attempts at field goals.
Smith, making up for lost games due to his knee injury, has gone to work inside with Morrow at his side. His career-high record speaks for itself as his 47 triples exceeds the combined total of all other Yellow Jacket players and his 109 attempts is almost half of the entire team’s record.
Joining the duo of power players is Zam Fredrick, a guard who has constantly been a starter for Georgia Tech. Fredrick ranks eighth in the ACC in his assist average, which is a solid 4.1 per game at an average of 9.9 points. Making the most of getting back into the starting lineup, he continually shoots at 44.1 percent and has generally been positive in his assist to turnover ratio.
Georgia Tech has made at least one third of their three-point attempts so far this season and have never had two frontcourt players like Smith and Ra’Sean Dickey contribute so much in the history of the team. With Smith at center, the Yellow Jackets have won 13 of their 16 opening taps so far this season. No other ACC team has fewer starting junior and senior players than Georgia Tech, or more starting freshmen and sophomores. Still, the Yellow Jackets’ career scoring leader is Anthony Morrow, who comes in at an impressive 457 points. Their active rebounding leader is Jeremis Smith who holds his place at 205.
Eager to make a name for themselves this ACC season, the Yellow Jackets garner stunning fan support at home and away as tickets to Georgia Tech basketball games rapidly sell out across the nation.
