Team Information
The Seminoles are starting off their 2005-06 season led by such promise as sophomore Isaiah Swann, who has made nine of his last 16 3-point attempts. Florida shot .471 from the three-point line in three games they have played this 2005-06 season. The Seminoles’ starting lineup is packing a serious punch this season with Al Thornton, Alexander Johnson, Isaiah Swann and Jason Rich leading the team. This powerful five-some is responsible for scoring more than 67 percent of Florida Sates’ total points to date. All of them are averaging in the double figures, scoring impressive numbers. Rich put up 10.0, beat out closely by Johnson (11.3) and Thornton landed an impressive 17.0 average for himself. The Florida State fans can’t wait to get their Seminole basketball tickets.
Thornton is still the most talked-about player for the Seminoles, not playing less than 31 minutes in any game and shooting .621 from the field. He was a near perfect 15 of 18 shots in Florida State’s match up against Boston College and earned himself the coveted ACC Player of the Week Award. He continues to lead the Seminoles on the boards averaging a career-high 7.6 rebounds per game. Thornton has snatched nearly as many rebounds away from opposing teams this season as he did in the 29 games he played as a sophomore for Florida State.
Thornton is joined in ACC notoriety by sophomore guard Isaiah Swann, who has already earned a career high in points in 2005-06. He also tied his career high record of four steals, bringing his record up to 26 steals with a 1.7 steal per game average. He dishes out assists left and right, scoring an average of 16.7 points per game himself.
Another returning favorite hits the court in senior Todd Galloway, who has never missed playing a game for Florida State since the start of his career with the Seminoles. Galloway holds an impressive position as the record-holder of career steals for the Seminoles. Five more steals and Galloway will break his personal record of 35, which he accomplished during his last season and he has an impressive 112 steals so far during his overall career with Florida.
Sophomore Jason Rich is raising eyebrows as he has built up a new tradition of double figure scoring in 2005-06. Rich averages 10.3 points per game and is determined to gain notice from Seminole fans and press alike. Still, no one attracts attention like junior Alexander Johnson who now has his 50th blocked shot under his belt. Johnson has now blocked 50 shots in 77 games during his three years with the Seminoles and is one of only 20 other players in Florida State’s history to block at least 50 shots in his career.
Florida State is eager and ready to prove itself as a force to be reckoned with on the ACC courts and their fans are rapidly buying up Seminole basketball tickets to rally around their favorite team.
