Subway 500 Information
Subway 500 tickets and the Martinsville Speedway make an unbeatable combination for NASCAR fans. Martinsville is the shortest track currently on the circuit. Its length keeps drivers on the edge, forcing them to work the brakes and roll into the curves ready to accelerate at the earliest opportunity. Because of Martinsville's twin 800-foot straightaways, it's no easy task to hold a lead. Added to that is the low banking of the turns. Drivers have to stay on their toes just to hold the track at Martinsville. So get ready for a trip to Martinsville, VA by reserving Subway 500 tickets today. With the Subway 500 coming late in the NASCAR season things are heating up, the Race for the Chase hangs in the balance, and you don't want to miss a single minute of Subway 500 action.
You won't see any trophies handed out at Martinsville either. Because of the predominance of the furniture industry in the area, the lucky few who claim the checkered flag at Martinsville will take home a grandfather clock. You might also hear a train whistle above the roar of the engines as the Norfolk Southern chugs along close to the track. The Martinsville Speedway track was sold to International Speedway Corporation in 2004 and has been defined as the "biggest deal in NASCAR" to date. Recently, International Speedway Corporation has been purchasing race tracks in an effort to gain a majority in the number of races on the circuit.
Jeff Gordon fans are thrilled when he comes to race at the Martinsville Speedway. Ticket sales rise as Gordon is a NASCAR veteran. After Gordon's substandard 2005 season, he and the rest of his Hendrick Motorsports squad hope that by the time the Subway 500 rolls around on October 22nd, 2006 they'll be well in contention for the NASCAR Nextel Cup.
On October 23th, 2005 Jeff Gordon won the Subway 500 at Martinsville Speedway. It was his first win in 22 points races. It was a bittersweet moment for Hendrick Motorsports. In 2004, 10 people flying to Martinsville for Hendricks died in a plane crash. To win, Gordon had to hold off Tony Stewart, the pole winner, for most of the race. Gordon gained the lead with a gutsy move, staying out the track during a caution. The strategy allowed him to take the lead over Stewart, outrun Greg Biffle, and take home the win. Gordon went on to finish 11th in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Championship and received a $1,000,000 bonus. NASCAR fans await this years race and are already purchasing Subway 500 tickets to see who'll get the checkered flag at the 2006 Subway 500.
