Nextel Cup Series Information
Nextel Open tickets give NASCAR fans the chance to see every single driver who has distinguished himself over the last two seasons. In other words, every NASCAR driver worth his salt will line up at the Nextel Open. Slated for May 20, 2006 at the Lowe's Motor Speedway, the 2006 Nextel Open promises a high speed battle amongst the greatest of NASCAR. In order to run in this race, a driver must have claimed a checkered flag in a NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race in either the current season or the previous season, or won a Nextel Cup in the last 10 years and still be driving. In other words: Only winners can claim a spot in the Nextel Open.
It all starts with the NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge Open, which consists of a 30-lap sprint divided into two parts. Two drivers will move up into the all-star event, one by winning the race and the other by winning a popular fan vote. To qualify for the Nextel Open, a driver must have finished at 50th or better in the last season's ranking, or be 50th or better in the current season's rankings by the cut-off date of March 14th, 2006. The second part of the evening is the NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge, an extremely familiar and popular race that has a wide fan base. The 90-lap, 135-mile event will be divided into 40, 30, and 20 lap segments and after the first two segments are completed, each driver is allowed to drive in the last 20 laps to give everyone a view of the best drivers in the business. Just to make things interesting, at some point up to a dozen cars can have their spot reversed. All the normal pit stop rules apply, allowing the teams to swap tires, re-fuel, and do most of the normal adjustments NASCAR allows.
Brian Vickers, whose No. 25 GMAC Chevrolet Monte Carlo, is always met by cheers, has claimed a Nextel Open. Vickers was born October 24, 1983 and grew up in Thomasville, N.C. His crew chief is Lance McGrew and Vickers is embarking on his third year in the Cup Series, he was the 2003 Busch Series champion and is thirsty for more victories this season. Other champions of this event are Starling Marlin, Jeff Burton, Jeremy Mayfield, Ryan Newman, Johnny Benson, Todd Bodine, Steve Park, Jerry Nadeau, and Tony Stewart.
NASCAR fans eagerly support the Nextel Open events every season and tickets are in high demand already, so be sure to purchase yours in plenty of time to see this one-of-a-kind race. Nextel Open tickets are going faster than ever!
