Checker Auto Parts 500 Information
Get ready for November 12, 2006. How? By snagging some Checker Auto Parts 500 tickets and racing to Phoenix International Raceway where they'll be hosting the Checker Auto Parts 500. Phoenix International Raceway or PIR, is a one mile tri-oval race track located in Avondale, Arizona, located about a half hour's drive from Phoenix.. PIR opened in 1964, but wasn't used by NASCAR until 1988 when Alan Kulwicki scratched out a win at the first NASCAR event held at PIR.
Viewed from above, the Phoenix International Raceway has an unusual configuration. Some broadcasters use the letter "D" shape to describe the shape. The reason for this odd shape race track is because the owner did not want to change the infield road course to accommodate a traditional NASCAR oval. Since the raceway has not been changed, it has since been used by the Indy Racing League and an infield road course has been used by the Grand American Road Racing Association. Kyle Busch set himself up at a young age by selectively choosing which races he wanted to compete in. Busch also chose to drive the number 87 Ditech.com machine, a good choice that delivered superior results. In 2003, Busch distinguished himself in his first NASCAR Busch Series race by finishing in the #2 spot. At the time it was his best finish ever. Running in ARCA RE/MAX races the same year under the Hendrick banner, Busch claimed victories at both the Kentucky Speedway and the Nashville Super Speedway. Starting from the pole position, Kyle's first full time driving season began in 2004. With Brian Vickers moving on, Busch was able to take the wheel of the Loews car. Vickers moved up to the Nextel Cup series and this opened up a spot for Busch to take on the role. Rookie of the Year honors followed and Busch became a rising star by winning the Funai 250, along with several high finishes and pole positions along the way. When veteran driver Terry Labonte announced he would be driving a limited race schedule in 2005 and 2006, Busch then was picked to take over the full time drive schedule. Busch took over driving duties in NASCAR Nextel Cup Series in 2005 when he took the wheel of the #5 Kellogg's Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Kyle Busch races for Hendrick Motor Sports who has sponsored recent NASCAR superstars as Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson. Hendrick Motor Sports is famous for picking top young talent. Alreadying clinching the 2005 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Rookie of the Year title, Busch fans can't wait to see Busch and his crew for the 2006 NASCAR Nextel Cup series and buying their tickets in advance.
