The White Sox management then strengthened an already formidable pitching rotation by trading for Javier Vasquez, the right hander from Arizona. Vasquez was 11-15 in 2005 while struggling with some health problems but being fully recovered should result in an improvement. The Sox also held on to key players like Paul Konerko, keeping the continuity and team chemistry that brought them to the World Series in the first place.
On offense the White Sox have a solid lineup, especially in the middle. With Jermaine Dye, Konerko, and now Thome keeping pitchers honest the Sox should continue putting up good numbers. Scott Podsednick is strong in the leadoff spot, hitting .290 in 2005, while stealing 59 bases and crossing the plate 80 times. While the lineup doesn’t feature any .300+ hitters, the White Sox don’t have any glaring weak spots in their batting order and fans can expect someone to come through on any given day.
