| Team Information
In recent years, Kansas City Royals have paved the way for fans to witness a desperate home team work to reestablish a sense of baseball excellence. Despite management and player changes, this tradition eludes Royals fans. In 2004 and 2005, the team lost more than 100 games. As the 2006 season begins, fans pray that Bell’s first full season (he began coaching in mid-2005) can deliver promise. While the team may struggle, fans can enjoy one of the most picturesque atmospheres at the Royals’ home park waterfalls line the area behind the outfield walls.
While the franchise’s recent struggles may cause some fans to forget the Royals’ period of dominance, the emergence of one of the game’s greatest players occurred in Missouri. Third baseman George Brett spent his entire career earning over 3,000 hits, a Most Valuable Player Award, and numerous selections to the American League All-Star team. However, the most significant accomplishment of Brett’s 20 seasons in the majors came in 1985 when he guided the team to its lone World Series Championship. After numerous earlier trips to the postseason proved an inability to defeat the competitors for the American League Pennant, Brett’s offensive potency helped spur the team’s miracle year.
Plans for a massive renovation of the Royals home game Stadium should be completed by 2010 and the front office will continue to renovate the team’s makeup. After a winning season in 2003 under Tony Pena, the Royals returned to their struggles. However, the recent addition of veterans Mark Grudzielanek, Doug Mientkiewicz and Reggie Sanders leaves fans hopeful that the franchise is on its way back to contention for an appearance in postseason. As the 2006 season surges into full swing, Bell and the rest of the coaching staff will search to make necessary adjustments to the Royals' starting rotation in order to compete with the rest of the American League Central Division.
