Time after time, year after year, Tampa Bay's Raymond James Stadium plays host to some of the most exciting showdowns of the bowl season. The 2007 Outback Bowl promises to be no different. A New Year's Day tradition, the Outback Bowl moves over a day to make room for a full slate of New Year's Day NFL football. Then, the Outback Bowl will kick off bright and early at 11 a.m. Tampa time on January 1.
The tradition of heart-stopping finishes continued in the 2005 Outback Bowl. Fans of the Big Ten and SEC are still buzzing about the Georgia Bulldogs' 24-21 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers. Georgia's prolific senior signal caller David Greene, college football's all-time winningest quarterback, threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns to help the Bulldogs hold off Barry Alvarez's gritty Badgers.
At the 2003 Outback Bowl, current Cincinnati Bengal running back Chris Perry scored four touchdowns to lead the Michigan Wolverines to a 38-30 win over Rex Grossman and the Florida Gators. Ron Zook's Gators had a chance to tie the game late, but the Wolverines spoiled a trick play, which had Grossman going out for a pass, to preserve the win.
The SEC and Big Ten have to be included in any discussion on which is college football's toughest conference. Georgia made its case of the SEC last season. The Big Ten will be looking for revenge at the 2007 Outback Bowl.
