Event Information
On December 28, Boise State University's 30,000-seat Bronco Stadium will host the ninth annual 2006 MPC Computers Bowl. Formerly known as the Humanitarian Bowl, diehard college football fans of the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Western Athletic Conference have been bundling up and making the trip up to Boise, Idaho's winter wonderland since 1997. They've been rewarded with some of the highest-scoring bowl games in history. In 1998, Idaho outscored Southern Miss, 42-35. Clemson rocked Lousiana Tech 49-24 in 2001. The ACC ruled again in 2004, as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets rolled over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, 52-10 in bowl's biggest blowout. The winning team has scored an average of at least 40 points in each of the eight previous bowl games at Bronco Stadium.
Featuring one of the nation's most explosive offenses, Boise State will be staying home for the holidays to play host at the MPC Computers Bowl for the fourth time this year. Head coach Dan Hawkins put the Bronco program in the national spotlight with his exciting brand of football. Boise State won consecutive Humanitarian Bowls in 1999 and 2000. The Broncos have put up more than 34 points in each of their appearances in the bowl.
Bronco Stadium first hosted a post-season bowl game in 1997, when the Cincinnati Bearcats pulled away from Utah State 35-19. Last season, Fresno State and Virginia battled in an overtime thriller. Head Coach Pat Hill's Bulldogs squeaked past Al Groh's Cavaliers 37-34 on touchdown pass from Paul Pinegar in overtime.
