On Dec. 23, one of the Big 12's best will take on one of Conference USA's top teams in the third annual Fort Worth Bowl at Amon G. Carter Stadium on the campus of Texas Christian University in Forth Worth, Texas. The 46,000-seat facility is located just outside of the Dallas metropolitan area.
Last year, nearly 27,902 rabid fans were treated to a tremendous performance from a senior quarterback. The Cincinnati Bearcats, led by their dual-threat quarterback Gino Guidugli, overcame a 14-10 halftime deficit by scoring 22 unanswered points in the second half to coast past the Marshall Thundering Bowl 32-14. Guidugli completed 24 of 36 passes for 231 yards and touchdown. Clutch quarterback-play has been a two-year tradition at the Fort Worth Bowl. And even as good as Guidugli's numbers were, it couldn't match the day Boise State's Ryan Dinwiddie's had in the inaugural Fort Worth Bowl.
Rising head coach Dan Hawkins brought his upstart Boise State team into Fort Worth for a showdown with the host TCU Horn Frogs. Hawkins' Broncos showed college football fans how they toss the pigskin up at Boise State. The Horn Frogs jumped out to a 21-7 lead early in the second quarter. But Dinwiddie would rally the troops, tossing two of his bowl-record three touchdowns passes before halftime. The Bronco senior quarterback struck again in the fourth quarter. This time hooking up with Derek Schouman on an 18-yard game winning touchdown. Dinwiddie completed 19 of 35 passes for 325 yards and three touchdowns to help the Broncos prevail over the Horn Frogs, 34-31.
