Event Information
Samuel Timothy McGraw, grew up in sports and music and went to Northeast Louisiana University on a baseball scholarship to study sports medicine, but it was in college when McGraw picked up the guitar and learned to play it in addition to being a refined singer. McGraw, like many other country artists at the time, elected to leave school in 1989 and head to Nashville to make his name known. He signed with Curb records and his second album, “Not a Moment Too Soon,” rose to the country top ten and the pop top 20. In all, the album sold more than five million copies, was the best selling country album of the year, and topped the country and pop album charts.
1999’s “A Place in the Sun” only helped McGraw to become the king of country music. The triple-platinum album peaked at number one on both charts and gave him four more number one singles. His next two albums both followed the same pattern as his previous work and his duet with Faith Hill entitled “Let’s Make Love” earned him his first Grammy for Best Country Vocal Collaboration.
