Event Information
The Rolling Stones are one of the few bands that can say they’ve been successful in the music business over an extended period of time. The Stones came over from England about the same time as the Beatles but gave the fans a completely different style of music. They were a legitimate rock and roll band, one of the first, and haven’t compromised their style over the years in the hopes of “trying to fit in.” Lead singer Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards have been the core of the band since its first days. Bill Wyman was on the bass while Charlie Watts was the drummer and the band released their first album in 1964. The band arguably worked harder and released more album than any other in the 1960’s which led to front man Jagger calling the Rolling Stones the “World’s Greatest Rock & Roll Band” in the latter parts of the decade.
The Stones popularity grew when the band elected to hit the road and tour the nation constantly, a move that helped them in numerous ways. The band could release some excess energy in artistic ways in front of loyal fans instead of being stuck in a studio like they had been, and the shows were some of the best in the business. After the release of Stones 1991’s live album“Flashpoint,” Darryl Jones replaced Wyman and the band released Voodoo Lounge and had an even more successful tour then their previous one. Voodoo Lounge also won the group its first Grammy for Best Rock Album. Since then, the band has focused more on live shows instead of new work in the studio, something die-hard fans are excited about.
