Event Information
Rod David Stewart was born on January 10, 1945, in London, England, and was the youngest of five children. Stewart joined his first band in 1963 as a vocalist and harmonica player and actually went on tour with the Rolling Stones during a tour in the summer of 1965 before the band disbanded. After working with numerous other bands in the United Kingdom, Stewart Stewart took the chance to sign a solo contract and begin working on his solo debut. Released at the end of 1969, “An Old Raincoat Won’t Let You Down” didn’t sell well in Britain but actually was relatively successful in America.
Stewart’s third album, “Every Picture Tells a Story,” made him a household name after the unexpected success of “Maggie May.” Maggie May would be number one in both countries for five weeks while “Reason to Believe” would give him another hit single. Stewart began changing his image to that of the pop superstar. The immediate results were quite favorable with 1976’s “A Night on the Town” becoming his first platinum album. Stewart went with another change in music style soon after when he focused more on acoustic and live music, a change his fans were much more receptive to and has kept his name in the picture as one of the top performers over the last 30 years.
