Event Information
Nine Inch Nails, led by front man Trent Reznor, became the biggest band in the history of industrial music during the 1990s. The genre, known for its heavy guitars, loud drums, and clinching vocals, received a bit of an image change from Nine Inch Nails after their success early on. Reznor, born on May 17, 1965, in Mercer, Pennsylvania, is the only member of the band that was around at the time of its inception. The group released “Pretty Hate Machine” in 1989 and Reznor picked up a touring band which included longtime friend Chris Vrenna on drums and Richard Patrick on guitar. After finally settling on keyboardist James Woolley to fill a void left by a number of keyboardists, the band elected to play in more alternative rock shows to widen their fan base.
Fro a while, Nine Inch Nails was experiencing a high rate of turnover with Woolley and Vrenna leaving the band but Reznor still kept his name in the public by producing the debut album for Marilyn Manson entitled “Antichrist Superstar.” After the success of The Downward Spiral, Reznor spent five years trying to work through a severe case of writer’s block before releasing “The Fragile” in 1999. The album debuted at number one and was followed by “Things Falling Apart,” a remixed version, in 2000 and in 2002 by “And All That Could Have Been,” a live album.
