Event Information
Even at a very young age, it was quite likely that Lenny Kravitz would have a career in show business, even if you couldn’t see his talent at first glance. Kravitz was born in New York on May 26, 1964, and both his parents were involved in television. His mother was Roxie Roker who appeared on “The Jeffersons” as Helen Willis, while his father was a television producer. He was raised from a young age in Los Angeles and had the chance to be surrounded by some of the biggest names in music like Ella Fitzgerald, Bobby Short, Duke Ellington, and Miles Davis.
Kravitz would establish himself as a bona fide superstar in 1993 with the release of “Are You Gonna Go My Way.” The album featured the title track with was one of MTV’s most played videos for the year and also propelled Kravitz to be known as one of the top touring shows in all of the music business. After some time away, Kravitz changed his image a bit and released “5” in 1998. The album took some time to hit the charts but stayed there for an incredibly long time after singles like “Fly Away” and a remake of the Guess Who classic “American Woman” were released. The latter also made its way onto the soundtrack for the movie “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.” He released a Greatest Hits collection in 2000 and followed it up with “Lenny” in 2001.
