Event Information
In the latter parts of the 1980s, Green Day was one of the numerous bands in the underground punk scene in the Northern California area. Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt were childhood friends who both had a certain love of music and they decided to form their first band, Sweet Children, when both were only 14. With Armstrong on the vocals and the guitar and Dirnt on the bass, the duo needed a drummer and picked up Al Sobrante before changing their name to Green Day.
The band independently recorded and released an EP that got their name out to the public before they signed on with Lookout Records. They released their first album and replaced Sobrante with Tre Cool who would become the band’s drummer years to come. The band released “Kerplunk” in 1992 and received notoriety from the underground scene before garnering interest from major record labels, eventually signing with Reprise. Spring on 1994 saw the band release “Dookie,” their major record label debut album. Dookie went on to sell more than eight million copies in America and ten million worldwide behind the initial push and success of “Longview.”
