Team Information and History

Syracuse is experiencing growing pains and significant changes this season, changes made overwhelmingly necessary by the loss of their three senior starters. This extreme turnover in players is resulting in a brand new style of play for the Orange and their fans are eager to see just what this team will show as tickets to see Syracuse college basketball are going fast.

Syracuse won 27 games in the Big East last season, working their way into the NCAA tournament, depending heavily on Gerry McNamara who made 107 three pointers, consistently shooting outside of 15 feet. No other opposing player could touch him and this year he is backed up by potential shooting superstars Louie McCroskey, Demetris Nichols and Eric Devendorf, confident in their potential starting spots.

Three members of the Orange’s junior class are stepping into much larger roles in the frontcourt this season. Terrence Roberts will be filling departing player, Hakin Warrick’s power forward spot. Roberts has incredible potential and is now out of Warrick’s shadow and ready to show just how talented he can be in such an integral position on the court. Roberts started the last six games of the 2004-05 season and impressed the nation last summer by earning a coveted spot on the United States’ Under 21 Team. Daryl Watkins is ready to take over at center, a fierce rebounder; he should fill Craig Forth’s open spot nicely. Somewhat of a wildcard choice, senior Matt Gorman could be playing both center and power forward this season.

For any other team, the loss of a superstar player like Warrick would be cause to mourn, but not for Syracuse! Roberts, McCroskey, Nichols and Watkins, the junior superstars are more than capable to carry this team onto greatness. The key player this year will be McNamara, but the members of the junior class are the ones who will set the tone for the entire team. Syracuse is ready to take the court at the Carrier Dome and make the journey to the tourney for the 25th time in 30 seasons of basketball. Fans are just as anxious to see what the Orange will do this season, anticipating greatness from them as they rush to buy up all the Syracuse basketball tickets this season.
