Team Information and History

Head Coach of the Seton Hall Pirates, Louis Orr, finally has his dream realized in this year’s team. Ever since he became the Pirates’ head coach five years ago, Orr has wanted to field a ruthless, bruising and physical team ready to hold their own in the savage Big East Conference. The arrival of a flock of fresh-faced new players has completely reshaped Seton Hall’s team. The Pirates have to be extremely physical to compete effectively in the Big East and they are ready to prove their power this season. Fans across the United States are showing their support of this Big East favorite by rushing to buy Seton Hall basketball tickets.

Seton Hall's team has a solid mix of talent in the frontcourt this season, headed up by Orr’s current favorite, forward center Marcus Cousin. He has a chance to become a star rebounder this season, as well as being a solid presence in the post. Joining Cousin will be senior starting forward Kelly Whitney who led Seton Hall in scoring and rebounding last season. Grant Billmeir is also returning to the frontcourt, along with Mani Messy, a uniquely promising all-around athlete hungry to prove himself this year. Even more flexibility is added to the frontcourt this year with four players new to Seton Hall; Stan Gaines, Mike Pilgrim, John Garcia and David Palmer. Gaines started 17 games as a sophomore and stands to make a significant contribution this season.

The backcourt is equally strong this year, of not even better. Senior Donald Copeland is a solid presence at point guard and will be leading his team in scoring once again. Backing Copeland up this year is combo guard Jamar Nutter and freshman Paul Gause. Gauze scored 3,144 points in his high school career and averaged 33.9 points per game his senior year. He has proved himself to be an outstanding shooter as well as a point guard his teammates can count on. Nutter is a versatile player who shines as either the point guard position or as a shooting guard. With last year’s seniors gone on to bigger courts, Brian Lang will be benefiting the most out of the returning players by taking the majority of the minutes on the court as the off guard player.

Seton Hall is, as always, an impressive work in progress as Orr takes on the task of reshaping his latest crops of potential stars. This season is better than most due to their new powerhouse effect adding size, depth and increased athletic ability to their already solid presence. Excitement builds as the anticipation of many new faces blended with the rising stars of the returning players causes fans to consistently sell out stadiums across the country as they rush to purchase Seton Hall Pirates basketball tickets this season.
